101 Things to Do in 1001 Days

The Mission:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.


The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).


Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past - frequently simple goals such as New Year's resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organizing and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

First Goal Completed


I completed my first goal on the first day of the challenge. On Wednesday, April 30th, I ate everything that was given to me on an unappetizing plate - #94. Technically, I didn't eat everything, but I did try everything. When I came up with this one, I imagined being given a meal that I wouldn't normally eat and eating it anyway. What happened on Wednesday was that four friends who know exactly what I will not eat - Lana, McFadden, Clarke, and Philip - made me a ginormous plate full of food. I was given a cheese and peppers quesadilla with sour cream and salsa, lentils, tofu, an egg with mayo, cheese fries, steamed vegetables, salad with olives and ranch dressing. None of these are foods I would ever choose for myself. I started eating, needing to chase with rootbeer and/or beef. I gagged on nearly everything and eventually needed to be blindfolded so I wasn't too psyched out to continue eating. After more than an hour, having tried everything on the plate and eaten most of it, I put my fork (and the blindfold) down. I'll post a picture or two when I get McFadden to send them to me.
